Grilled Sandwhich

Hey all, todays blog is on the humble grilled cheese sandwhich. Most of you would have gone "huh? i need to grill the sandwich on a barbeque?" no you don't have to. the method is actually quite simple. Grilled sandwhichs aren't some thing you find in most asian eateries cause it is an invention by some angmo very long ago. (wiki it your self thank you very much =P)

here's what you need:
Grilled Cheese Ham Sandwich - Serves 2

4 slices of bread
4 slices of cheese
2 strips of bacon
A tomato thinly sliced
Mayonnise
Pepper

Put a slice of cheese on each side of bread and lay the ingredients  on each slice. Add mayonniese and pepper.

Next lightly butter the top and bottom side of your sandwich with with either butter or olive oil

Turn the heat to high and place your sandwich on a non stick pan. Now the trick to making your grilled sandwich go from good to superb! Get a heavy plate or a heavy object ( i used a potato masher to press the sandwich down) to press down and flatten the sandwich. Turn over and do the same for the other side. Cook each side for 1 - 2 mins.

Serve just as it is. Cut open to reveal a gooey runny cheesy center ^^

This a great midnight snack or if you are rushing for time and need a quick meal. It just takes at least 15 min to prepare a serving. What's more you can be creative with this recipe. you can add anything between the slices. Chicken chop, lamb fillets, beef slices, basically anything you want. must be edible of course ^^.

John

RSYC The Wharf

this is a back dated entry as i went there to eat awhile back. i go there on an average of once in a few months as john's parents are members of the club. btw, RSYC stands for Republic of Singapore Yacht Club.

normally we dine at The Wharf, which is an open-concept cafe that is overlooking the marina. the view from the cafe at night is spectacular, however the food is not as spectacular.

ok i cant rmbr all the names of the dishes so i will just skip it because u can tell from the photo, what i am talking about. haha. so this is their signature burger which is huge! it consists of the burger buns, pickles, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, cheese, fried egg, bacon and a meat patty. served together with coleslaw and fries. the beef patty was juicy and tender when i bit into it and it complements well with the egg and bacon. however, it is a big portion and i had to pack half of it home to finish up. but i have to give credits because the burger was still yummy even when i ate it the next day. just pop it into the microwave and u have a yummy meal! fries and coleslaw were normal.

the deep fried soft shell crab served was good as the batter was not too thick. the soft shell crab was coated in a thin batter that is very crispy. taste wise, it just tasted like normal soft shell crab.

the hongkong noodles were done fairly well. not much comments on this cos i only tried a little. heh

this was the best dish of the day. normally we see mee siam with the sauce but this was fried dried. the taste of the sauce was cooked into noodle and was very tasty! overall the portion was just nice too.

currently, i only have reviews of these food. will surely go back to eat as they offer western and local food at affordable prices. will be back to update more on the food at RSYC! oh btw, the chendol there is really good! dont have a pic of it but be sure to try it if u are there!

Liquid Kitchen

I love chilling out with friends and just catching up with them, so i am constantly on the lookout for good places to chill! Few days ago, i went to Liquid Kitchen in Serangoon Gardens to chill with a few friends. It was quite a nice place to chill esp with their on-going House pour promotion! I did try out their food as well! tried the slow roasted spring chicken but was terribly disappointed ): the chicken was too dry, not only the breast meat but the thigh as well! its either the over cooked the chicken or left it in the fridge for too long and the meat dried up! didnt try their finger food like potato wedges but will try their other finger food next time, as they have a big variety!

the best part of the whole experience there was the drinks! the promotion was house pours for $5 nett! i had whisky dry, which was whisky and ginger ale. ( am i right? correct me if im wrong! ). My dear friend, guangs, picked the drink out for me and i was so grateful! haha it was a good drink! i tried the vodka cranberry as well but i felt that the cranberry taste overpowered the vodka.

sorry, blur pics cos the place was very dark!

On-going Promotions !

also, they have promotion for a pint of Erdinger for $11++ ( cant really rmbr the price ) and a pint of tiger for $8++ ( also cant rmbr heh ). i will definitely go back for more of the house pour promotion before it ends!

Poached Eggs!

Have you ever had eggs benedict? I absolutely love it! its a poached egg served with bacon on an english muffin with hollandaise sauce. so basically poaching eggs is like cooking the egg in a pot of water without the shell. well, sounds easy right? haha

Egg poaching is awesome because u dont have to use oil and its very eggy! a perfect poached egg consist of a runny yolk, a thin layer of eggwhite over the yolk and no raw eggwhite parts left. You might run into some difficulties at first but just keep trying until u get the perfect poached eggs!

Poached eggs
2 eggs ( or how many u wanna eat )
3 tsp salt
1 shallow pan ( or thick pan but i prefer using a shallow one)
water to cover more than half of the pan
vinegar (optional but i dont like using it as it spoils the taste)

Fill the pan with water and bring to boil. Once it is boiling, lower the heat to a simmer and swirl the water in the pan to a smooth circular motion.
Crack the eggs into a small saucer or ramekin and slip the eggs in one at a time into the centre of the whirlpool.
Allow the eggs to sit in the water until the whites around it begin to firm up and form a crust around the yolk.
Remove eggs gently with slotted spoon or ur steamboat ladle and gently tap out excess water.
Plate them straight onto your muffin or toast and enjoy with salt and pepper or hollandaise sauce.

Enjoy!
